Yes, the sale of investment gold is exempt from VAT under Articles 121–125 of the Act of March 11, 2004, on Goods and Services Tax. The exemption applies to bars with a fineness of at least 995/1000 and bullion coins that meet the statutory requirements. The exemption applies throughout the European Union.
The smallest bar available at the Treasury Mint weighs 1 gram, which means you can start investing in physical gold with an amount equivalent to the price of 1 gram of gold at the current LBMA rate. For those with a larger budget, bars weighing 5 g, 10 g, 20 g, 50 g, 1 oz (31.1 g), 100 g, 250 g, 500 g, and 1,000 g are available.
Investment gold is best stored in a bank safe deposit box, a home safe rated at least S1, or in a professional vault (e.g., the storage service offered by the State Mint). Bars and coins in the manufacturer’s blister packs (CertiCard, assayer’s certificate) should not be removed from their original packaging—keeping the blister pack intact affects the resale value.
Yes, the State Mint buys investment gold at prices based on the current exchange rate. Purchases are made at physical retail locations. A valid ID is required, and transactions are settled by bank transfer or in cash.
