The Gold Krugerrand is one of the most famous bullion coins in the world, produced for several decades by the South African National Mint. The gold used in its minting is an alloy with a fineness of 916.6, with a small admixture of copper. Exactly one ounce of gold bullion is used to produce each coin, and today the Krugerrand is popular for its incredible stability in value and liquidity, allowing for immediate resale regardless of market conditions!
Discover the extraordinary history of the golden Krugerrand!
With its vast reserves of precious metal, the South African Chamber of Mines came up with the idea of creating the world's first gold investment coin. The Krugerrand has been in continuous production since 1967, and its main competitor on the market is an investment product with the charming name of the Canadian Maple Leaf.
In terms of historical background, it is worth knowing that the name Krugerrand comes from the surname "Kruger" and the word "rand," which is the name of the South African currency. The precision of its manufacture and the highest quality raw materials used in its minting have made it the most popular bullion coin in the world today. The price per coin has been steadily rising in the long term and has increased several times since 1967!
Manufacturer of the 1 oz Krugerrand coin
The Krugerrand 1 oz coin is produced by the Rand Refinery, which is considered the world's largest single complex for the production and processing of precious metals. Since 1920, it has been involved in the purification, smelting, and recovery of precious metals. It manufactures products for investment, industry, and trade, as well as creating unique luxury products. However, the flagship product of the South African refinery is the Krugerrand, which is popular with small and large investors from around the world, including Poland.
Bullion coin with legal tender value
The Krugerrand has legal tender status in South Africa, which allows it to be imported into many countries without paying tax. This is an additional advantage of the bullion coin, facilitating its distribution on a large international scale. Initially, the coin was produced in one size, containing one ounce of gold. In 1980, versions containing half, quarter, and tenth ounces of pure gold were introduced. For the uninitiated, it is important to note that one ounce of gold is equivalent to exactly 31.1035 grams. The purchase of a one-ounce bullion coin often opens the investment portfolios of Poles – the Krugerrand is a great start to the adventure of safe investing in gold!
What does the 1 oz Krugerrand gold bullion coin look like?
The Krugerrand was designed by South African sculptor Coert Steynberg. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Paul Kruger, president of the Transvaal (a Boer state in what is now South Africa). The edge bears the words "South Africa" in Afrikaans and English.
On the reverse side of the coin, we see a springbok antelope, one of South Africa's national symbols. On either side of it are numbers representing the year of minting. Below, there is an inscription "Fyngoud 1 oz fine gold," indicating the pure gold content. The coin's weight (33.93 g) consists of one ounce of pure gold and less than 3 grams of copper. This makes the Krugerrand more resistant to scratches and gives it an unusual color.
Due to the long-standing, unflagging trend of purchasing this unique coin, Mennica Skarbowa offers it in its assortment. Therefore, if you are planning to invest your savings in a reliable and proven manner, the Krugerrand is an excellent solution. The price of this coin continues to rise due to its enormous popularity among investors and collectors around the world.
