Description of the Call of Nature gold coin: Puma 1 ounce

The Canadian Growling Cougar gold coin is a limited edition coin that was first issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. The cougar is the second coin in the Canadian Mint's Call of the Wild series. The coin is minted from 99.999% pure gold, making it one of the purest gold coins ever produced. Due to its higher purity, the 1 oz Cougar coin has a face value of CAD 200 and is ideal for any collector looking for an extraordinary coin.

Appearance of the Call of Nature: Puma 1 oz gold coin

The reverse depicts the puma's muzzle, whiskers, short round ears, and thick fur in detail, all of which make the animal appear three-dimensional. It is the design of Canadian artist Pierre Leduc, who wanted to depict a growling puma in an interesting way.  The image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the head of state of Canada, appears on the obverse along with the denomination of 200 CAD and the year of issue of the gold bullion coin.

Historical overview

The Call of the Wild series from the Royal Canadian Mint showcases the beauty of wild animals living in Canada. These animals are captured while making sounds: howling, roaring, or calling, which further emphasizes their power. The cougar is one of Canada's most powerful, elusive, and beautiful predators. It is the largest member of the small cat family and the fifth largest cat in the world, after the tiger, lion, jaguar, and leopard.

Manufacturer

As Canada's independence from Great Britain grew, so did the need to mint its own coins. That is why the Royal Canadian Mint was established in 1908 and has since become one of the most important mints in the world. However, to this day, all coins from the Royal Canadian Mint bear the portrait of the reigning British monarch.

The shares of the Mint are held in trust for the Crown of Canada.

The Mint produces all Canadian circulation coins and designs and manufactures collector coins made of precious metals—gold, silver, palladium, and platinum bullion coins, medals, medallions, and tokens. It also offers gold and silver refining services.

Today, the Royal Canadian Mint sets the standard in minting technology and numismatic design, reflecting its position and reputation.
