Description of the "Call of Nature" Gold Coin: Lynx, 1 ounce
This seventeenth coin in the Call of the Wild series is struck from 1 ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The engravers at the Royal Canadian Mint have ensured that the portrait of the bobcat is rendered in the finest detail. This coin is made from the highest standard of pure gold available in the world. It also has the highest face value (200 CAD) of all gold bullion coins that are legal tender. This makes it an extremely sought-after coin among investors and collectors.
Appearance of the "Call of Nature: Lynx" 1-ounce gold coin
The reverse side of the coin features a detailed engraved portrait of an American lynx. The animal has its mouth open, revealing its distinctive fangs. A laser-engraved maple leaf is featured in the center of the coin. The year of issue is also inscribed there.
The obverse features an image of Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscription "D.G. REGINA" (Queen by the Grace of God), and the face value of 200 dollars is shown at the bottom.
Historical overview
The bobcat (from the English “short-tailed cat”), also known as the red lynx or American lynx, is the most efficient and perhaps the best-adapted cat in North America to changing conditions. The bobcat is a solitary and mysterious animal. It is often confused with the Canadian lynx, but its face more closely resembles that of a domestic cat, and like other cats, it can make sounds familiar to us: hissing, growling, and purring. The bobcat is smaller than the Canadian lynx, has shorter ear tufts, spotted fur, and a white underside to its short, curved tail. It also has smaller paws, which make it harder for it to move through snow and limit its range to southern Canada. It hunts mainly hares and rabbits, but also eats rodents, birds, fish, reptiles, and even the occasional deer. It is a skilled hunter capable of catching prey much larger than itself.
The red lynx is a species that has undoubtedly thrived. Its populations occupy vast areas, and the predator itself is widespread and, in most places, is not threatened with extinction, despite human activity in the ever-expanding areas where these animals are found.
Manufacturer
As Canada's independence from Great Britain grew, so did the need to mint its own coins. That is why the Royal Canadian Mint was established in 1908 and has since become one of the most important mints in the world. However, to this day, all coins from the Royal Canadian Mint bear the portrait of the reigning British monarch.
The shares of the Mint are held in trust for the Crown of Canada.
The Mint produces all Canadian circulation coins and designs and manufactures collector coins made of precious metals—gold, silver, palladium, and platinum bullion coins, medals, medallions, and tokens. It also offers gold and silver refining services.
Today, the Royal Canadian Mint sets the standard in minting technology and numismatic design, reflecting its position and reputation.
