Description of the 2024 Year of the Dragon 1/2 oz gold coin

This is the fifth edition of the gold coin from the Lunar III series, this time depicting the upcoming Year of the Dragon 2024. The coin was minted at the renowned Perth Mint. Lunar III coins are extremely popular among collectors around the world. Therefore, they are an excellent investment, due to their investment value, which is growing year by year. 

This richly decorated coin is legal tender. Each bullion coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule.  

Appearance of the 1/2 oz 2024 Year of the Dragon gold coin

The reverse of the coin features a finely engraved Chinese dragon. The image is adorned with stylized mist and waves in the background. The Chinese character for dragon and the inscription DRAGON 2024 are also featured. The mint mark P125 refers to the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint. 

The obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is complemented by her reign (1952-2022), as well as the weight, fineness, and denomination. It was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.

Historical overview

The Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar. • According to superstition, you should not take a shower on New Year's Day, because you might wash away your luck.

• Red reigns supreme during the 15 days of celebrations, with almost all decorations featuring red elements. 

The Wood Dragon sign characterizes intelligent and creative people who are distinguished by their gentleness and stubbornness. When hurt, they lose their optimistic attitude.
