Hafnium is mainly used in the production of so-called superalloys in combination with niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, and tungsten. These exceptionally stable, refractory, and heat-resistant materials are used in the aerospace industry and in the production of gas turbines. This metal is also used in semiconductor technology (computer chips) and high-frequency technology. In nuclear technology, hafnium is used in reactor control rods. It also has laser applications and is essential for the development of artificial intelligence.
Why could hafnium be an interesting investment?
- Boeing forecasts demand for 44,000 new aircraft by 2043, while Airbus predicts that the number of commercial aircraft will double over the next 20 years.
- The global market for zirconium and the hafnium it contains is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.6% through 2031.
- The global market for artificial intelligence in cancer diagnostics is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4% to reach $2.6 billion between 2024 and 2034.
