Product description

The complete set of Belgian euros is a unique offer for collectors and numismatics enthusiasts. It is an official set of Belgian euro denominations from a given year, offered in the highest mint quality, which ensures that the original appearance and value of the issue are preserved. The set has been designed to document the country's currency history, offering the opportunity to own all circulation coins from a single year in the form of a complete series. It also has added collector's value, which sets it apart from standard sets.

Appearance of the coin

The whole set is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, which allows you to view the coins without removing them from the packaging. Each coin has its own designated place, arranged in ascending order of denomination from the lowest cents to euro coins. The token is placed separately, but in the same blister pack, so that it is clearly visible and complements the set. All elements have a clearly preserved mint luster.  Eight coins feature a uniform Belgian national motif – each coin bears a portrait of King Albert II with his monogram. In addition, the coins feature the year of issue, the 12 stars of the European Union, and elements typical of Luc Luycx's design. The token depicts one of the four screw lifts of the Canal du Centre, which is historically and technically significant for Belgium. One side of the medal features the year of issue, while the other side features the UNESCO logo and inscription.

Historical overview

The set was prepared by the Royal Belgian Mint as an annual collector's edition, and its theme is dedicated to a unique achievement of Belgian engineering — the lift locks on the Canal du Centre. The set commemorates the 90th anniversary of the completion of these remarkable structures, which have remained fully functional since their opening in 1917 and are a symbol of the country's technical heritage.

The Canal du Centre, connecting the Meuse and Scheldt rivers, was one of the most important hydrotechnical projects at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Four historic lift locks, later inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, are a unique example of the use of precision mechanical solutions in inland navigation.

To mark the occasion, the Belgian Mint has issued a limited edition set of euro coins in mint quality, together with a commemorative token depicting one of the locks, to celebrate the anniversary and highlight the importance of this site in the history of Belgian technology and culture. The issue is both collectible and educational in nature – it was created to preserve the memory of industrial engineering heritage and promote Belgian achievements within the European monetary community.

Manufacturer

The Royal Mint of Belgium (La Monnaie Royale de Belgique) is the official institution responsible for the production of circulation, collector, and commemorative coins issued by the Kingdom of Belgium. Its history dates back to the first half of the 19th century, when, after gaining independence in 1830, the country needed its own mint to strike national coins. Since then, the mint has become one of the key elements of Belgium's national heritage, combining the tradition of minting craftsmanship with modern production technology.

With the introduction of the euro in 2002, the Royal Mint of Belgium began minting new coins of the common currency with the national image of the King of Belgium on the obverse, while retaining the characteristic Belgian style and symbolism. In addition to circulation coins, the institution regularly issued annual sets and commemorative medals documenting important historical, cultural, and technological events. Today, the mint remains one of the symbols of precision, elegance, and tradition of European minting craftsmanship, combining national heritage with Belgium's international prestige.
