Historical overview
Amblyglyphidodon aureus is the Latin name for the golden humphead wrasse. It is a species of fish that inhabits tropical waters at depths of 3 to 45 meters. Its range extends from the Andaman Sea in the eastern Pacific Ocean to Christmas Island and Fiji in the western Indian Ocean. It is also found in northern regions such as the Ryukyu Islands and in the south around New Caledonia. These beautiful fish, reaching up to 13 cm in length, are usually golden or yellow in color with bluish or slightly purple spots on their heads. Black dots may also appear on the sides of the body, giving them a distinctive appearance. Amblyglyphidodon aureus is often found in areas with abundant underwater vegetation, especially around sea anemones, particularly Gorgonaria, and in the vicinity of black corals. It is a territorial fish, usually seen alone or in small groups, feeding on zooplankton a few meters above the bottom. With its unique appearance and interesting behavior, this fish is a fascinating part of tropical marine ecosystems.
