The 2022 Year of the Tiger 1/4-ounce gold bullion coin is part of the Lunar III series issued by The Perth Mint. For years, this Australian mint has followed the Chinese calendar, drawing inspiration from the successive zodiac signs.

The Tiger is the third coin in the Lunar III series and the twenty-seventh in The Perth Mint’s Lunar series. In 1996, the mint issued its first coin featuring a Chinese zodiac sign, thereby launching a long-standing tradition and subsequent Lunar series.

Appearance of the 2022 Year of the Tiger 1/4-ounce gold coin

The reverse of the coin features a majestic image of a tiger standing atop a hill. Its silhouette, combined with the menacing display of its fangs, highlights character traits such as strength, courage, dominance, and self-confidence. This image is complemented by the inscription “TIGER 2022” and the Chinese character for “Tiger.” The letter “P,” the mint’s symbol, is also featured there.

The obverse of the coin features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA,” as well as the face value, weight, and gold fineness.
