This is the eleventh coin in the popular "Australian Lunar Series." The 10-ounce, Ag 999 coin was minted to commemorate the Year of the Dog, which began in the Chinese calendar. The coin comes in its original capsule.
The obverse features an image of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, the coin's purity and denomination.
The reverse depicts a German Shepherd and a puppy lying in the grass. Chinese peonies are in the background.
The Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar. It is divided into 60-year cycles, which consist of years assigned to 12 animals representing the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water).
