Description of the silver coin Allegory of Freedom 2024

The $50 Allegory of Freedom coin is a unique piece in any collection. It pays tribute to the enduring spirit of heroism and hope upheld by Canadians. Inspired by the allegorical figure at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, this coin pays tribute to generations of Canadians who have fought for and continue to defend freedom. A distinctive feature of the coin is the three-dimensional gold-colored Freedom figure. The coin is the perfect complement to the 2023 Allegory of Peace coin, as both coins were inspired by two allegorical figures found at the top of the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Coin weight 143.07 g (outer ring 104.63 g and inner part 38.44 g).

Appearance of the silver coin Allegory of Freedom 2024

The silver coin features a double-sided 3D figure cast entirely from 99.99% pure silver in its center. It depicts the figure of Liberty, a woman sitting on a mythical bird shown in flight. She holds a torch in her hand, lighting the way. Visible on both the obverse and reverse of the coin, it is gold-plated and symbolizes hope, guidance, and optimism. The obverse features an image of King Charles III by Steven Rosati. In addition, both sides of the coin are decorated with scrolls of parchment, olive branches, and maple leaves on the outer edge, symbolizing Canada's contribution to world peace and freedom. Rebeka Yanovskaya is responsible for the coin's design.

Historical overview

The coin is inspired by the National War Memorial in Ottawa. It is a powerful symbol of the courage and hope shown by generations of Canadians who fought for freedom. The memorial inspired the creation of the 2024 allegory, which, in addition to its historical theme, also represents the latest achievements in innovation. It is a continuation of the 2023 Allegory of Peace. Limited to just 1,400 pieces worldwide, this coin is not only a tribute to freedom, but also a collector's piece of modern craftsmanship from the Royal Canadian Mint.

Manufacturer

As Canada's independence from Great Britain grew, so did the need to mint its own coins. Therefore, in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint was established and has since become one of the most important mints in the world. To date, all coins from the Royal Canadian Mint bear the portrait of the reigning British monarch.

The shares of the Mint are held in trust for the Crown of Canada.

The Mint produces all Canadian circulation coins and designs and manufactures collector coins made of precious metals—gold, silver, palladium, and platinum bullion coins, medals, medallions, and tokens. It also offers gold and silver refining services.

Today, the Royal Canadian Mint sets the standard in minting technology and numismatic design, reflecting its position and reputation.
