Dysproz należy do grupy ciężkich pierwiastków ziem rzadkich. W porównaniu z lekkimi pierwiastkami ziem rzadkich występują znacznie rzadziej, a ich przetwarzanie jest bardziej złożone, a co za tym idzie, droższe. Dysproz odgrywa ważną rolę w stopach magnetycznych stosowanych w elektromobilności i energetyce wiatrowej.
Dysproz jest stosowany jako składnik stopowy w wielu technologiach. Należą do nich magnesy trwałe, takie jak te stosowane w generatorach turbin wiatrowych i silnikach napędowych samochodów elektrycznych. Dysproz zwiększa koercję, pozwalając magnesom dłużej zachować siłę przylegania. Jednocześnie ten dodatek zwiększa użyteczny zakres temperatur magnesu. Chociaż w przypadku magnesów neodymowo-żelazowo-borowych wynosi on do 80 stopni Celsjusza, można go rozszerzyć do ponad 200 stopni poprzez dodanie dysprozu. Dopiero wtedy rozpoczyna się demagnetyzacja. Pierwiastek ten jest również wykorzystywany w reaktorach jądrowych lub w produkcji czujników.

Goods included in the so-called unsorted gold and silver may be an exception. The choice of bar manufacturer is made at random at the order fulfillment stage and depends on the Company's current stock levels.
