The coin presented here belongs to the popular Queen's Beasts series, produced by the British mint, The Royal Mint. It is made of pure silver of the highest fineness, four nines.
The Silver Richmond White Hound coin is the tenth and final coin in the Queen's Beasts collection. Previous coins featured: the Lion of England, the Griffin of Edward III, the Unicorn of Scotland, the Red Dragon of Wales, the Black Bull of Clarence, the Falcon of the Plantagenets, the Yale of the Beauforts, the White Lion of the Mortimers, and the White Horse of Hanover.
It is worth noting that the white greyhound was used by the descendants of Edward III as a symbol and became closely associated with the House of Lancaster, before passing to the Tudor family. The greyhound is associated with qualities such as agility, as well as fidelity and loyalty.
The inspiration for the series was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. At that time, majestic statues of 10 beasts guarded the entrance to Westminster Abbey. The first coin in this collection, Lion of England, was issued in 2016. From the very beginning, the series has been very popular among both investors and collectors.
The reverse, designed by Jody Clark, features an image of the White Greyhound of Richmond, surrounded by the inscription "White Greyhound of Richmond," as well as information about the weight and fineness of the silver and the year of minting: "2 oz Fine Silver 999.9."
The obverse features a profile image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the inscription "ELIZABETH II D.G.R.F.D." and the denomination "5 POUNDS."
