Appearance of the Queen's Beasts silver coin: Yale 2 oz

The obverse features the likeness of Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain, and information about the coin's face value. The portrait was designed by Jody Clark, an iconic coin designer from the Royal Mint. The reverse of the coin depicts one of the beasts of the Tudor Kingdom - The Yale Of Beaufort. The reverse was designed by David Lawrence.

Historical overview

According to legend, Yale of Beaufort was a beast so extraordinary that it aroused admiration in all who approached the palace. It had a body resembling a goat or antelope, a lion's tail, and boar's tusks. The Tudor beasts were created during the reign of Henry VIII to legitimize the dynasty through the symbolic characteristics of each of the ten different beasts. Five beasts belonged to the king and the other five to the queen.

When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, the entrances to Westminster Abbey were guarded by 10 beasts – statues created especially for the occasion by James Woodford and inspired by the Beasts of King Henry VIII.

The six-foot-tall beasts symbolized the heritage and history that Queen Elizabeth II inherited on that day and from which the royal family descends.

The "Queen's Beasts" coin series commemorates this unique event and recognizes the magnificent artistic work full of symbols and meanings.

It is one of the most popular coin series in history and a must-have for any collection.
