The collector coin with a face value of PLN 10, issued on June 19, 2009, by the National Bank of Poland, is part of the series "History of Polish Popular Music." It commemorates Czesław Niemen – an outstanding composer, instrumentalist, and vocalist, considered one of the most important figures on the Polish music scene. The coin stands out with its unusual square shape and artistic design by Robert Kotowicz.
The reverse side of the coin features a stylized image of the cover of the album "Katharsis," depicting a crying woman with her face in her hands. At the top is the inscription "N.AE./KATHARSIS," on the left side is the inscription "HISTORIA POLSKIEJ" (History of Polish), and at the bottom is "MUZYKI ROZRYWKOWEJ" (Entertainment Music). The obverse features a portrait of Czesław Niemen, with the inscription "NIEMEN/CZESŁAW" on the left side and the inscription "RZECZPOSPOLITA" on the opposite side. At the bottom left is the inscription "POLSKA 10 ZŁ" and under the eagle's left paw is the mint mark "MW".
The coin won recognition in the international competition "Constellation of Coins – 2010," taking first place in the "Silver Coin of the Year" category and second place in the "Successful Artistic Idea" category. A total of 209 coins from 24 countries took part in the competition, which testifies to the exceptional artistic and collector's value of this issue.
