A Polish collector's item minted in 2009 to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising and to pay tribute to Tadeusz Gajcy, an outstanding poet of the "Columbus" generation, who was active in the resistance movement against the German occupiers and took part in the Warsaw Uprising. His work, although created in extremely difficult conditions, was distinguished by mature reflection on war, patriotism, and moral duty to his homeland. During the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, Gajcy took an active part in the fighting, serving in the "Parasol" battalion and ultimately dying at a young age.
His poetry, including poems such as "To Posterity," became a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the dramatic condition of the insurgent generation. The coin commemorating Tadeusz Gajcy is a tribute to his life, work, and participation in the Warsaw Uprising.
