It was the response of the Polish population of the region to Germany's attempts to maintain power and restrict the national rights of Poles.
Thanks to efficient organization, high determination of the population, and support from underground structures and local military units, the insurgents quickly gained control over most of Greater Poland, which in the following months led to international recognition of their victory.
The successful battles directly contributed to the region's inclusion in the reborn Republic of Poland, which was of great territorial, economic, and political significance for the young state. To this day, the uprising remains a unique example of the Poles' victorious armed struggle for independence, conducted in a disciplined and effective manner.
