The year 2015 brought a unique opportunity to honor an institution that has continuously shaped the elite of Polish technical thought for a century. Although the Warsaw University of Technology has its roots in the 19th century, in 1915 it began a new chapter – regaining its independence and transforming itself into a modern university with Polish as the language of instruction. It was this moment, symbolizing the birth of modern Polish technical education, that was commemorated with the issue of a gold collector coin.
The university played a key role in rebuilding the country after regaining independence, and its graduates made an enormous contribution to the development of engineering, industry, and science, both in Poland and abroad.
