A 500 złoty gold coin was issued by the National Bank of Poland in 2025 as part of the “Hetmans of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth” series. The issue was dedicated to Stanisław Żółkiewski—an outstanding military commander and Grand Crown Hetman. The coin is made of one ounce of 999.9-fine gold, and the use of a mirror finish and high relief highlights the precision of the design. Its collectible nature is further enhanced by its very limited mintage of 1,000 pieces. This coin is intended for collectors of Polish numismatics, history enthusiasts, and fans of limited-edition releases by the National Bank of Poland (NBP).
The coin’s design references the figure of Stanisław Żółkiewski and the symbolism associated with his position and lineage. The obverse features the emblem of the Republic of Poland, the Lubicz coat of arms belonging to the hetman, and a mace symbolizing his military rank. The reverse depicts a bust of Stanisław Żółkiewski, accompanied by a decorative floral motif. The high relief and mirror finish lend the depicted elements a striking clarity and emphasize the coin’s collectible nature.
The coin was put into circulation on June 12, 2025, as the next issue in the NBP’s “Hetmans of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth” series. Along with the 500 złoty gold coin, a 10 złoty silver coin dedicated to the same hetman was also issued.
Stanisław Żółkiewski was one of the most outstanding Polish commanders at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. His victory at the Battle of Kłuszyn in 1610 secured him a special place in history. He served as Grand Crown Hetman and Grand Crown Chancellor, and his achievements made him one of the most significant military figures of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
