Product description
The coin was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of one of Poland’s most important rescue organizations. The issue honors the people who, for over a century, have been coming to the aid of tourists and climbers in challenging high-mountain conditions. The product combines collectible value with an important historical message. It was created for enthusiasts of Polish history, the Tatra Mountains, and mountain rescue, as well as for those interested in commemorative coins issued by the National Bank of Poland.
Appearance of the coin
The design has a solemn and patriotic character. It skillfully combines motifs related to the mountains, rescue operations, and the organization’s history, creating a cohesive and symbolic whole. The obverse features elements referring to statehood and distinctive symbols related to the theme of the issue. The composition is complemented by the issuer’s mark, the denomination, and the year of issue. The reverse presents motifs related to the activities of mountain rescuers and the landscape of the Tatra Mountains. The design highlights the hardship and dedication of those who provide assistance in the mountains. The meticulously crafted relief highlights both the figures and elements of the mountain environment, lending the entire design exceptional depth.
Historical overview
The coin was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service. The organization was founded in 1909 on the initiative of Mariusz Zaruski, who recognized the need to establish a professional rescue service operating in the Tatra Mountains.
Over the following decades, rescue workers took part in thousands of rescue operations, helping tourists, mountaineers, and skiers. This issue was created as a tribute to their courage, dedication, and immense contribution to improving safety in the Polish mountains. The coin also serves as a reminder of the Tatra Mountains’ significance as one of the most important symbols of Poland’s natural heritage.
