Product description

The coin is a commemorative issue by the National Bank of Poland, created to commemorate Poland’s participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. It belongs to a group of modern numismatic items that combine a sports theme with representative and collectible functions. The coin’s concept is based on promoting the ideals of Olympism and the achievements of Polish athletes, emphasizing the importance of the country’s participation in international sporting events. Issues of this type are symbolic in nature and often accompany important events, serving as a form of commemoration.

Appearance of the coin

The coin’s design features a modern, dynamic style inspired by winter sports, with one side taking on a more expressive character, while the other retains the formal, official layout typical of issues by the National Bank of Poland.

The reverse side features motifs related to winter sports, depicted in a simplified and dynamic style. The athletes’ figures are depicted in motion, with a clear emphasis on speed and fluidity, creating a sense of activity and Olympic competition. The design is complemented by graphic elements and inscriptions referring to the Polish national team and the PyeongChang Games, which underscore the thematic nature of the issue.

The obverse has a more structured layout and features the coat of arms of the Republic of Poland along with inscriptions arranged symmetrically around the central motif. This side serves an identifying and official function, contrasting with the more dynamic and narrative reverse. The overall design combines a modern sports aesthetic with a classic mint layout, creating a cohesive composition that reflects the nature of the event and its significance.

Historical overview

The coin was issued by the National Bank of Poland to commemorate Poland’s participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, one of the world’s most important sporting events. The Games brought together athletes from many countries and provided an opportunity for competition at the highest level in winter sports.

This issue continues Poland’s tradition of commemorating its participation in the Olympic Games through numismatics, with the aim of highlighting the importance of sports in society and promoting the achievements of Polish athletes. Coins of this type are issued regularly to mark each edition of the Games, serving as a record of Poland’s presence on the international stage.

The coin’s design reflects the spirit of the Olympic Games, which is founded on competition, fair play, and the pursuit of excellence. This issue is symbolic in nature and aligns with contemporary numismatics, where coins serve not only as collector’s items but also as commemorative and representative pieces, immortalizing significant sporting events.

The coin was issued by the National Bank of Poland (NBP), which is responsible for issuing currency in Poland. The NBP regularly puts into circulation both circulation coins and collector and commemorative coins commemorating important events, anniversaries, and historical figures.
