We have a weakness for beautiful jewelry. Not just our own, but all beautiful jewelry. That's why we regularly review the offerings of world-renowned jewelers. Today, we present the first part of the series "The most famous jewelers in the world": Tiffany, Cartier, Black Starr & Frost, and Harry Winston (the selection of the first four was inspired by the song "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" sung by Marilyn Monroe in the movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes").
TIFFANY & CO., BLUE BOXES, AND THE FAMOUS STORE ON FIFTH AVENUE
Tiffany & Co. is undoubtedly one of the most famous jewelers in the world. It was founded 180 years ago in New York. It offers both very modern jewelry (often without precious stones) and simple but exclusive jewelry with diamonds (white and yellow), as well as watches and luxury accessories. If you want to buy your goddaughter a tiny silver hair comb for $180, you will find it at Tiffany's. But Tiffany is primarily known for its world-famous engagement rings (Tiffany Setting). It was Charles Lewis Tiffany who invented the most famous engagement ring model - a delicate ring with a diamond set in a six-prong setting. Tiffany is also a famous store in Manhattan, known from the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Finally, Tiffany is known for its distinctive blue boxes with white bows (in Tiffany Blue, the color of blue robin's eggs), which let you know that you have just received a gift purchased at Tiffany's.

CARTIER AND THE FIRST MEN'S WRISTWATCH
Slightly younger than Tiffany's, Cartier was founded 170 years ago in Paris. Cartier also has an invention of historical significance to its credit – it invented the wristwatch (instead of the pocket watch). Today, few people can imagine that it could be any other way. Cartier also introduced a distinctive ring design: three intertwined bands of white, yellow, and rose gold (known as Trinity de Cartier). Another characteristic motif in Cartier jewelry is the panther and orchid. He also often used other animal motifs (usually choosing dangerous ones, such as snakes or crocodiles) and plant motifs. Contemporary Cartier jewelry is rather simple, modern, and minimalist (both with and without precious stones), but the company still offers collections featuring floral and animal motifs. Cartier also offers watches and exclusive accessories.

BLACK STARR & FROST - CLASSIC DIAMONDS
The oldest jewelry company still operating in the United States was also founded in New York. Black Starr & Frost (when Marilyn Monroe sang about it, it was known as Black Starr & Frost-Gorham) has been around for over 200 years and, although its heyday is behind it, it still creates beautiful jewelry. Unlike Tiffany's and Cartier, Black Starr & Frost offers very classic jewelry. Jewelry from Black Starr & Frost consists almost exclusively of pieces with diamonds, or possibly colored gemstones or pearls. The company also offers solid, masculine watches with a slightly sporty character.

HARRY WINSTON AND CONTEMPORARY CLASSICS
The youngest of these jewelry companies, Harry Winston, was founded 85 years ago, also in New York. Harry Winston loved diamonds. In the 1950s, he owned the world's second largest collection of historical jewelry. Second, because the first was owned by the British royal family, which was not easy to beat. He was the first to come up with the idea of promoting his jewelry through Hollywood stars at important galas. Winston's jewelry was also often used in films. Harry Winston offers simple, classic jewelry, almost exclusively with diamonds, sometimes enriched with other precious stones. He often uses very basic floral motifs. Harry Winston also has a wide range of watches.
