HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT NECKLACE LENGTH

When it comes to necklaces, length really matters, almost down to the centimeter. Why? First of all, not every length of necklace suits every woman. Secondly, the length of the necklace should be chosen to suit the occasion and outfit. So how do you choose the best one?

WHAT LENGTH WILL BE BEST?

In our previous post, we explained that the length of a necklace in centimeters determines how it will drape across the chest and how low it will fall. So what is the best length? The best length is the one that best suits the occasion and the specific outfit. It is therefore worth having several necklaces of different lengths. Our figure is also important, as not every necklace length suits every woman.

WHAT LENGTH FOR WHAT OCCASION

  • For everyday wear, shorter necklaces are best: chokers or princess necklaces.
  • A necklace, matinee, opera, and string will be more appropriate for the evening or for relaxed, casual weekend outfits.

NECKLACE LENGTH AND STYLING

WHAT LENGTH OF NECKLACE SUITS ME BEST?

  • A necklace can emphasize a beautiful neck and face (necklace, choker), bust (matinee, opera), and even the waist and hips (string); it is best to choose one that best highlights our assets.
  • Short necklaces make the bust look bigger, so long and medium-length necklaces are better for large busts, while short and round necklaces are better for smaller busts.
  • Long necklaces slim the upper body by drawing attention to the waist or hips. They are therefore not recommended for women with a larger tummy and a pear-shaped figure.
  • It is worth paying attention to the shape of the collarbones. Very slim women have protruding collarbones, which means that a stiff choker-type necklace will not sit well on them. In this case, it is better to choose a soft, flexible necklace or a necklace of a different length.
  • The length of the necklace and the material it is made of define its shape. In turn, the shape of the necklace should match the shape of the face. Therefore, when choosing a necklace, pay attention to its shape. It is best when it contrasts with the jawline (the lower part of the face). We have written more on this topic here: Matching a necklace to the shape of your face.
  • When choosing a necklace, pay attention to the length of your neck. A long necklace can elongate a short neck, while a short necklace can shorten and widen a long and narrow neck. The necklace that shortens and widens the most is a choker, as it "cuts" the neck in two.
  • We remember that a necklace of the same length will appear shorter on a wide neck and longer on a narrow one.
  • We also remember that a tall woman needs a longer necklace than a short woman to achieve the same effect.
  • Short people should choose shorter necklaces (preferably 15 cm from the collarbone). Tall people can wear very long ones, which shorten the silhouette.
  • The taller or plumper a woman is, the larger the necklace can be. The shorter and smaller she is, the more delicate it should be so that it does not overwhelm her visually.

All these rules seem complicated, but all you need to do is think carefully about your necklace choice a few times, and next time your choice will be limited to matching the necklace to a specific outfit and occasion.
