A week ago, I wrote about how to choose a necklace to match your neckline. Today, I will discuss necklines that clash with every necklace. However, they look great with earrings or a bracelet.
Necklines that we do not wear necklaces with are:
• asymmetrical neckline,
• cowl neckline,
• strapless neckline,
• high neckline combined with bare shoulders, i.e., stand-up collar, turtleneck, teardrop.
We also do not wear necklaces with blouses that have embellishments under the neck, i.e., embroidery, ruffles, bows, or frills.
An asymmetrical neckline looks best when paired with earrings. A necklace unnecessarily disrupts its beautiful line. If the neckline is deep, you can opt for a very short necklace. Whether it will suit you is a matter of the individual neckline and necklace.
A cowl neckline (also known as a draped neckline) is decorative in itself. Short necklaces duplicate the rich line of this neckline, resulting in too many embellishments. Long necklaces, on the other hand, do not drape nicely on the fabric. Therefore, it is best not to combine it with a necklace.
The straps clash with the necklace. It looks much better when paired with earrings. It is not without reason that I chose short earrings for the picture. Long earrings (as in the other drawings) would create two vertical lines that would look unfavorable with the straps.
High necklines such as stand-up collars, turtlenecks, or teardrops do not look good with necklaces, especially when combined with bare shoulders. While a turtleneck with sleeves might still look good with a long necklace, a sleeveless turtleneck will not look good with one. Never combine a teardrop neckline with a necklace.
Next week, I will show you necklines for which we have a choice of accessories. When choosing a neckline and necklace, we also take into account the shape of the face. I wrote about how to match a necklace to the shape of your face here.
