The NBP's issuance plan is not just a list of upcoming coins. It is a compass for collectors and investors: it allows them to see in advance the themes of the issues, their parameters, expected mintages, and dates of introduction into circulation. This makes it easier to plan budgets and purchases – both for hobbyists and those treated as capital investments. (The NBP plan includes, among other things, the denomination, fineness, dimensions, weight, type of stamp/technique, mintage, price, and date of issue).

Table of contents

What exactly will you find in the NBP plan?

The table includes the following information for each item:

  • Denomination and metal/fineness (e.g., Ag 999, Au 999.9).
  • Dimensions and weight (sometimes with indication of non-standard shape).
  • Type of stamp/technique – e.g., mirror, high relief, UV printing, laser matting, amber, polymer insert. This information refers to the finish and visual effect, not to the coin's "security features."
  • Estimated print run – the lower it is, the greater the collector's value (although price increases are never guaranteed).
  • Issue price and planned date of entry into circulation.
  • "Limited sale period until" – the date until which the NBP may sell a given item (usually 3 years after issue).

Please note: each NBP document bears the disclaimer "The plan is subject to change" – so it is worth checking back for updates.

How to read the plan step by step (and make purchasing decisions)?

  • Define your priorities: the series you want to run (e.g., History of Polish Coinage, I Believe in Poland, new series).
  • Circulation + techniques: low circulation, gold, and items with non-standard techniques (amber, cuboids, special shapes) are often the most sought after.
  • Monthly/quarterly budget: based on release dates, draw up a spending plan – e.g., "March: Hetmani; April: Chrobry and Katyń."
  • Series vs. "shots": if you are collecting a series, maintain consistency. Choose one-off, anniversary topics based on your interests.
  • Issue price vs. secondary market: some items disappear quickly – consider preparing funds in advance. However, remember that coins are not an instrument that guarantees a profit.

What's interesting in 2025? (selection of items)

  • Treasures of Medal Art – Stanisław Małachowski (start of a new series): PLN 50 Ag, high relief, mintage up to 5,000, issue date January 16. A great starting point for new collectors of the series.
  • 100th anniversary of the Concordat (1925–2025): PLN 20 Ag with UV printing, issued on February 6 – an attractive anniversary theme.
  • Hetmans of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth – Stanisław Koniecpolski (start of a second new series): PLN 10 Ag and PLN 500 Au, March 26 – the series promises to be one of the key ones in the NBP's offer.
  • 85th anniversary of the Katyn massacre: 50 zł Ag with selective plating, April 8.
  • The millennium of Bolesław Chrobry's coronation (1025–2025): three items – 10 zł Ag (selective gilding), 100 zł Ag in the form of a cuboid (311 g) and 500 zł Au with amber; launch on April 16. This is one of the most interesting issues of the year.
  • 45th anniversary of the founding of NSZZ Solidarność: PLN 10 Ag with UV printing, April 25.
  • Discover Poland – Town Hall in Brzeg (5 zł circulating coin): November 20.
  • History of the Polish coin – 5 złoty from the November Uprising period: 20 zł Ag, November 26.

And what about 2026?

  • Hetmans of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth – Jan Tarnowski: PLN 10 Ag and PLN 500 Au, March plan – continuation of the popular series.
  • "Independent Central Bank – NBP Gold Reserves" (new series): spectacular designs – including a cylindrical 100 złoty silver coin (311 g) and a 500 złoty gold coin; planned for April.
  • I believe in Poland – Polish national community: 10 zł Ag with UV printing, May.
  • 50th anniversary of Radom June '76 (10 zł Ag, UV printing) and 70th anniversary of Poznań June '56 (20 zł Ag): June.
  • History of Polish coins – 1 złoty of the Second Polish Republic: 20 zł Ag, July.
  • Halina Konopacka – in the service of her homeland: 10 zł Ag with polymer insert, September.
  • 120th anniversary of the Warsaw School of Economics: PLN 10 Ag (selective gilding) and rare PLN 200 Au, October.
  • The return of Gdańsk Pomerania to Poland (1466): 50 zł Ag with amber, October.
  • Józef Mehoffer – artist of the Polish banknote: 20 zł collector banknote + accompanying 10 zł Ag coin, November. A rare banknote-coin duo in a single month.
  • Discover Poland – Warmia Chapter Castle in Olsztyn (5 PLN), November.

How to translate the plan into an everyday purchasing strategy?

  • Create a "must have" list for the half-year and reserve your budget for the lowest expenditures/golden items.
  • Set reminders for specific release dates (especially March–April 2025 and spring/fall 2026—lots of premieres).
  • Think in terms of series: if you start collecting Hetmans or Treasures of Medallic Art, it is good to maintain continuity – catching up later can be more expensive.
  • Pay attention to "selected techniques" (amber, polymer, UV printing, special shape) – these are often collector's items that stand out in a given year.
  • Monitor plan updates – the NBP reserves the right to change dates and parameters.

Summary

The NBP's issue plan is a practical tool combining knowledge (parameters and schedule), passion (themes and series), and strategy (budget, priorities). Regularly checking the plan helps you buy smarter and build your collection with satisfaction. The current plans for 2025 and 2026 confirm a wide variety of themes and the launch of several high-profile series, which promises an exceptionally interesting time for lovers of Polish issues.
