What are rare earth metals?
Rare earth elements (REE) are a group of 17 chemical elements that are mainly concentrated in the Earth's crust. They are traditionally divided into light (LREE) and heavy (HREE) elements. Although their name suggests rarity, some, such as cerium and yttrium, are common, while others, such as terbium and thulium, are less common.
Where are they found?
REE occur mainly in minerals such as bastnäsite, monazite, and xenotime. Their deposits are divided into primary (carbonatites, granitoids) and secondary (weathered, monazite sands). China is the largest producer, although deposits are also found in the USA, Russia, India, Australia, and other countries.
What are they used for?
REE are widely used, including in the aerospace, electronics, energy, and optics industries. They are used in the production of neodymium magnets, batteries, catalysts, lasers, and fiber optic technology. Alternative sources include ash from coal-fired power plants and recycled electronics. How to buy them?
Mennica Skarbowa offers metals exclusively in physical form. It is possible to deliver the metal to the customer or store it in a customs warehouse in Germany (with individual monitoring). In the latter case, the purchase is not subject to VAT.
