METALS USED TO MAKE WEDDING RINGS

Wedding rings are traditionally made of gold. Most often, they are made of 14-karat gold (585 fineness) or, in a more exclusive version, 18-karat gold (750 fineness). The most expensive ones are made of platinum. Silver is a rare choice. But that's not all. What other metals are wedding rings made of?

PALLADIUM WEDDING RINGS

Palladium is a shiny, silvery, grayish-white precious metal from the same group as platinum, but much lighter. Thus, even though palladium itself is a very expensive metal, jewelry made of palladium is cheaper than platinum jewelry. Palladium is hypoallergenic, does not rust, and is extremely durable. It does not require an additional protective layer of another metal, which means that palladium wedding rings do not wear off and remain white forever. Palladium is also used in the production of white gold jewelry. Adding just a few percent of palladium causes the alloy to turn white.

TUNGSTEN WEDDING RINGS

Actually, it is made of tungsten carbide, which is a combination of carbon and tungsten. Tungsten carbide is almost as hard as diamond, which is why tungsten carbide rings do not deform or scratch. Another big advantage of these rings is their extraordinary shine, which they never lose. They are hypoallergenic and modern. Unfortunately, they are heavy, and their biggest disadvantage is that they cannot be resized. Tungsten carbide rings are steel gray in color.

TITANIUM WEDDING RINGS

Titanium is a light, shiny metal with a silvery-white color. It is durable and corrosion-resistant. The main advantage of titanium wedding rings is that they are light, do not cause allergies, and do not tarnish.

COBALT WEDDING RINGS

Pure cobalt is a shiny, silvery metal. Cobalt is similar in color to platinum, does not require rhodium plating, and does not tarnish. Cobalt wedding rings are extremely resistant to scratches and corrosion. Unfortunately, they can cause allergies.

TANTALUM WEDDING RINGS

Tantalum is a steel-gray metal with a bluish tint, scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic. Tantalum rings can be coated with ceramic glaze, for example, to achieve a color other than the metal's natural color and an interesting texture.

STAINLESS STEEL WEDDING RINGS

Stainless steel is increasingly used in jewelry. It has a nice, silvery, "steel" color, does not deform, does not change color, does not tarnish, and is hypoallergenic. It does not need to be polished and does not tarnish. Wedding rings made of tungsten, titanium, tantalum, cobalt, or stainless steel are much cheaper than those made of gold, platinum, or palladium. They have a number of advantages, such as resistance to abrasion and scratches. However, when buying them, we must remember that their real value is relatively low.
