NECKLACE, CHOKER, STRING – HOW MANY TYPES OF NECKLACES DO YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the length of a necklace defines its name? And also the occasion for which it is worn. Didn't you know that?

Let's start with what we mean by the term "necklace." A necklace is a neck ornament, which means that we understand the term necklace to mean a gold chain, a chain with a pendant, a string of pearls, as well as what is most commonly associated with the word necklace: a chain that forms a single whole with precious stones or other decorative elements adorning it. Depending on their length, necklaces also have their own names.

NECKLACE, COLLAR
A necklace or collar is a necklace with a length of 30 to 35 cm. It is a very sexy length that requires courage to wear. It can come in a very loose form with velvet, or in a very sophisticated form with diamonds, as part of an elegant evening outfit.

CHOKER
A choker is a necklace with a length of 36 to 41 cm. This is one of the most popular lengths. The necklace sits just above the collarbone, beautifully emphasizing a slender neck. It is subtly sexy, not as expressive as a necklace, and therefore less demanding.

PRINCESS
Princess is a necklace with a length of 43 to 50 cm. It is the most popular and versatile length. It does not draw attention to the neck or bust, but simply adorns the neckline, making it a neutral accessory.

MATINÉE
Matinée is a necklace with a length of 50 to 60 cm. A very attractive length that draws attention to the bust. A necklace of this length falls softly on the neckline and ends at the upper line of the bust, thus attracting the eye.

OPERA
An opera necklace (also known as opera length) is a necklace measuring between 75 and 90 cm in length, traditionally worn with a long evening gown. A necklace of this length also emphasizes the bust, but falls below the lower line of the bust.

STRING, LARIAT
A string or lariat is a necklace longer than an opera length. It can be worn as a single long necklace or wrapped around the neck several times. Perfect for evening wear or a casual, vacation look.
