Dressing well for work is quite a challenge. Feminine, but not too sexy; modest and appropriate, but not boring; neat, but not as if it took us two hours every day to get ready. Accessories are also important; they must be of high quality, but not too ostentatious.
I will show you what to wear to work on my blog, but today I would like to talk about jewelry. Jewelry is one of the few individual elements of a formal work outfit. Clothes, shoes, and handbags must meet specific requirements, but jewelry can express our style. So what kind of jewelry should be worn to work?
WHAT JEWELRY CAN YOU WEAR TO WORK?
Jewelry for work should be primarily real (made of gold, silver, platinum, or pearls) and non-shiny. We can wear:
- short, non-danglingearrings– a must when you have pierced ears;
- shortnecklace;
- high-quality, elegantwatch;
- ring- unless we already wear a wedding ring or engagement ring.
Jewelry should match the rest of your outfit, so if you wear glasses that are decorative in themselves, you should limit your jewelry. Earrings should be more modest, and you can skip the necklace altogether. You should also skip the necklace when wearing a scarf or neckerchief.
If you are unsure what to wear, the most beautiful adornment is always your wedding band or engagement ring and the earrings mentioned above. An engagement ring with a diamond or other sparkling stone is theoretically inappropriate, but only very strict institutions require you to remove it.
WHAT NOT TO WEAR
We do not wear jewelry with sparkling stones, jewelry typically worn in the evening, or jewelry designed for casual wear to work. Therefore, we do not wear:
- long, dangling earrings,
- impressive necklaces and long necklaces,
- shiny hair clips,
- bracelets (or a bracelet that fits snugly around the left wrist),
- casual jewelry made of strings, straps, wooden beads, and plastic.
